i was born in athani - lefkada and left to come to australia in 1966. i have 4 children all born in australia, and all of them have been back to my village more than twice. we all love going back - the sunsets are like magic - the sun looks like it melts into the big ioanian sea. the water on all of the beaches - porto katstiki, egremnous, gialo and plaka which is in nira, the tip of the island - is so crystal clear and colour of the ocean - you have to see it to beleive it. maybe i am biased - as i was born there and i love going back every chance i get - but its magic. the only problem there is - not enough rooms to rent - especially in ausgust. it seems all of greece goes to lefkada in august. they also have an annual dance festival, at the end of august - and all different euroean crountries come to part of it. it goes back to when i was a little girl. all the people that still live there are very friendly and very helpful. i remember last august there was no rooms anywhere -they were all full - and my aunty let a family stay in her kitchen for the night as it was too far to go back with a little baby to the main town. if you ever get a chance to go to lefkada you will not be disappointed.
